Third-year Integrated Marketing Students had the opportunity to cross swords – figuratively speaking – during the Department of Communication Science's annual Battle of the Creatives. Seventeen groups of between five and ten students each presented their campaigns to market the non-profit organisation, the Sunflower House.
This yearly event gives these final-year students the chance to showcase the depth of their skills. But even more than that, it serves to benefit an organisation that solely relies on donations for its survival. For this reason, a cutting edge marketing campaign is a lifeline to such an organisation.
Imaginary Inc came out tops with their #Draw4Life campaign. Their fundraising and awareness project involved students and children to upload a drawing and donate funds. This winning team consisted of NW Languza, NL Ngoloyi, NG Ramanamane, T Guthrie, W David, Vt Tohlang, TMJ Ralikontsane and AN Wayi.
Jodi Sardinha and Hlompho Sesele won the award for the best individual presenters of the day.
Maresa van der Walt, one of the lecturers in the course, hopes that projects like these will inspire students to use their academic knowledge to make a difference in their community.
The judges included Maresa van der Walt and Dr Dalme Mulder (Communication Science), Martie Nortje (Communication and Brand Management) and Sr Melinda Muller (Sunflower House).
