The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences on the Qwaqwa Campus produces some of its best students. This was revealed when a second-year BCom student, Mpuse Nkabinde, was announced as the campus’s Top Academic Performer during this year’s Student Excellence Awards. Last year’s Dux Scholar, Isaac Msibi, was also from the same faculty.
Mpuse Nkabinde dominated the day when she collected six awards, including Best Performing Second-year Student in Accounting, in Business Management, and in the Faculty. She also collected awards for the Best Performer in the OR Tambo Residence, and Overall Best Performer in the Residences.
A very proud but shy Mpuse said that there was no special recipe for her outstanding performance.
‘To be honest, I do not see myself doing anything special when I study. I just do what I have to do consistently’, she said.
This determined young woman from the small town of Kestel in the Free State has her eyes set on completing her studies, and then studying further for an Honours degree in Accounting.
‘I would like to pursue a career as a Chartered Accountant. This has always been dream’, said Mpuse, who obtained a distinction in Accounting in Grade 12.
The annual Excellence Awards recognise student achievement across the broad spectrum of campus life from sports, academics, arts and culture, and leadership.
