The 2015/16 Qwaqwa Campus Student Representative Council (SRC) can best be described in one phrase: “Nothing for us, about us, without us... students!”

According to Nondumiso Langa, SRC General Secretary, “We were students before we became the SRC and we will be students after our term of office hence we try by all means to focus on the students. We aim to have unparalleled vibrancy within our campus.

“Those who were at the recent Valentine’s Ball, where we wanted to find out what exactly love is from an African perspective, will bear witness that we mean business. Our programme, which will include lots of hard work and fun, will unfold over time. After all we are the diamond standard SRC,” she said.

“Our biggest project this year is the Right to Learn Campaign, which will assist students in acquiring textbooks, to remain registered and to get decent meals. We are calling upon everyone with the little that they have to assist us in helping our fellow brothers and sisters who do not have the means but have the desire to change the world by changing their situation at home through acquiring a qualification. Please donate,” she said.

Nondumiso also said that the communities round the campus would not be left out. “One other major project will be the RAG procession, aimed at raising funds and giving back to the less privileged in our neighbouring communities. We will also have a student structure week, where all structures will be given space at a designated area to market themselves and their activities. This will also help in recruiting membership for them. Another exciting concept is the KovsieQ Fridays, where we will play sports to create social cohesion among students,” she said.
