Despite being back for the first day of the second semester, students of the Golden Key International Honour Society UFS Chapter kept the spirit of the late Nelson Mandela alive. The executive committee, together with some of the members of the UFS chapter, made the day a special one.

Every day should be a Mandela day

Neo Kgoroba, Director of Marketing and Public Relations of Golden Key, said that if everyone does their part then we can make a greater impact. “Every day should be a Mandela day,” he said.

The UFS society, in collaboration with Shoprite, made their way to the Pelonomi Hospital in Heidedal, Bloemfontein on 18 July 2016 where they distributed soup and bread to the elderly and less fortunate. Golden Key assisted the Shoprite soup kitchen with dishing up and handing out soup and bread while the patients waited to be helped by doctors.

It might have been a very cold winter’s morning, but the day was filled with unending joy and thanksgiving, and what was intended to be 67 minutes turned into 3 hours of making a difference in the lives of others.

Outreach testament to Tata’s legacy

Golden Key’s mission is to enable members to realise their full potential through the advancement of academics, leadership, and service. This outreach was an example of one of Golden Key’s pillars: service to the community. Not only was this visit a testament to Golden Key, but also to the legacy of the late Tata Madiba.
