According to Statistics SA, recent studies show that crime in the country has decreased in the past five years.

UFS students and Mangaung community to help reduce crime

Despite this study, the number of violent crime reports from students at the University of the Free State (UFS), has put them and the entire Mangaung community under immense pressure to ensure safety for the students as well as for the community. The UFS, in collaboration with various stakeholders, is rolling out a campaign called Reach Out, which is set to bring the students and the community of Mangaung together to help decrease the number of violent crimes encountered by our students.

Reach Out is an initiative to encourage UFS students and Mangaung residents to come together to keep students safe at all times.

UFS continues to ensure student safety

It is a great task for the UFS to fight crime almost daily in order to ensure the safety of its students, yet its jurisdiction is very limited. Hence, students are requested to report any suspicious behaviour around their student homes to the police.  With the ongoing B Safe campaign, students are encouraged, and have been encouraged in the past, to avoid becoming prone to crime.

The UFS will continue encouraging students to prevent becoming victims of crime by reminding them of the safety tips that will assist them in ensuring their safety.
