Course structure

This 120-credit qualification on NQF Level 8 comprises three coursework modules to be completed over a one-year period. For each module, students have to attend a compulsory contact session at the Bloemfontein Campus.

Semester 1: 

IWRM 5810 
Introduction to integrated water resources, economics and governance

This 48-credit module is made up of:

  • Two one-week contact sessions at the Bloemfontein Campus of the University of the Free State during the first semester
  • Written assignments submitted online
  • Group assessments during class sessions
  • Online engagement 
  • One exam written at one of several urban centres throughout Southern Africa (June).

Semester 2:

IWRM 5820 (48 credits)
Integrated water resources science

IWRM 5846 (24 credits)
Water resources management and legislation
