What is the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Rural Development,
and Extension (CENSARDE)

Since our inception in 1994, the Centre
for Sustainable Agriculture, Rural Development, and Extension (CENSARDE) in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, has become synonymous with quality, and our students are characterised as market leaders in the area of agrarian expertise and research.
Through knowledge dissemination and expertise development, we’ve offered postgraduate students and professionals the opportunity to gain skills in a multi-disciplinary course approach, based upon
a parallel-medium distance-education technique.

In step with emerging market trends and needs, relevant short learning and diploma programmes were developed to address the skills gap and challenges experienced by both national and international communities. Our staff and students are extensively involved in rendering extension services within governmental and private organisations.

CENSARDE aims to educate key role players about the fundamentals of Sustainable Agriculture as a process whereby, at times, conflicting requirements of economical, social, and ecological values are integrated in a holistic approach to manage resources optimally.
