Who is DiMTEC?

DiMTEC is an education, training, and research centre within the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences on the Bloemfontein Campus of the University of the Free State in South Africa. At DiMTEC, we strive to educate the public on disaster risk reduction and resilience building through the Postgraduate Diploma, Master's and PhD degrees in Disaster Management, research projects, and short learning programmes (SLPs). DiMTEC’s first course was approved and registered by the South African Qualifications Authority in 2001, after which we joined the Department of Agricultural Economics with the vision of becoming an independent centre, which came about in 2005.

Vision

Our vision is to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in disaster management training, education, and research.

We also engage in disaster risk reduction and disaster management consultancy projects and research that is in line with environmental, social, economic, and political changes. We endeavour to succeed in our mission through professional academics and support staff, recent technology, and state-of-the-art facilities.
