With a vision to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in disaster management training, education, and research, the Centre thrives on delivering its mandate through hosting workshops and conferences. The purpose of these events is to contribute to the institution's academic and professional development. UFS-DiMTEC conferences and events are a platform for providing knowledge dissemination for scholars, researchers, and professionals. On this platform, they all convene to share their latest findings, research, and ideas. UFS-DiMTEC personnel are also able to advance their respective fields. The Centre can create networking opportunities that unite individuals from diverse backgrounds, including academics, industry professionals, and students. These events facilitate networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, fostering potential partnerships and collaborations. We are able to create academic visibility, professional development, and student engagements, promote a culture of research and establish ourselves on the local and community stage.

This Centre hosted a conference at the University of the Free State in 2008, which attracted more than 150 delegates. The conference involved partners from the Military, Working on Fire Association and Emergency Medical Response, who conducted an emergency simulation as part of the conference side events. It has also hosted workshops, short learning programmes, and Master's and PhD writing retreats in several provinces.
