KA 1 ERASMUS +: MOBILITY FOR STAFF, MASTER’S AND PHD STUDENTS: OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The University of the Free State is a partner university of the Alianza 4 Universidades (4 Universities Alliance, A4U), a strategic partnership network between four leading Spanish public universities, namely:

  • Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB)
  • Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM)
  • Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M)
  • Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).

Through its International Exchange Programme, the A4U is offering staff mobility grants under the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme, Key Action KA107. Detailed conditions for this open call for applications are listed below:

1. Timing of the application call
The Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility grant for South African higher education-based staff members is now open for application. The deadline for South African applicants is 12 November 2021. 

2. Distribution of the available scholarships
In total, there are four grants on offer. One grant is available for European applicants; for South African candidates, three scholarships are on offer.

The mobility flows for STAFF are as follows:

  4. Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona
*Mobility applications can be made to any of the above Spanish universities.




3. Duration of the scholarships
For staff, the duration of the scholarship is five days, with two days for travel, covering seven days in total. The mobility grant consists of a travel allowance and a monthly/daily subsistence allowance according to the flat rates as determined by the Erasmus+ Programme. The grant is a contribution towards the costs of the planned Erasmus+ mobility period.

4. Teaching or training mobility
Staff mobilities are open for academic and administrative staff, and can be for teaching, training, or both. However, priority will be given to academic staff members for a teaching mobility.

Listed below are the requirements for the respective mobilities:
  • During mobility for teaching, staff should deliver at least eight hours of teaching.
  • During mobility for training, staff should receive training, engaging in professional development activities such as training events (excluding conferences), job shadowing, or observation periods at the receiving institution.
  • Mobility can also be for teaching and training. In this case, the minimum number of teaching hours is four hours per week.

Staff mobilities can be conducted on site, in which case the grant will be paid; or online, in which case the grant will not be paid as there are no travel expenses involved. An inter-institutional agreement between the home and the host universities must be signed before the start of any mobility.

5. Start and end dates of the mobility programme
Staff can start their mobility at any time in the period 2022-2023, in accordance with the academic calendar and official breaks of the host and home institutions. However, the mobility period must be agreed upon by the host or home supervisor. In all cases, mobilities must be completed by 31 July 2023, as this is when the agreement expires.

6. Study fields
This is an open call for staff applications. Therefore, all study fields offered by the respective institutions are eligible for application.

Successfully pre-screened applicants will be invited to submit online applications to the Alianza4 online application platform. All applications must be concluded on the online platform by 12 November 2021.


Application, evaluation, and selection procedure

Phase 1: Application procedure

The following documents should be the minimum required for the application dossier at each mobility level: 
For staff:
    
1.CV and list of publications.
    2. Mobility agreement for teaching or training, signed by the applicant and the responsible academic (head of host faculty or department, or the host academic) at the home and host institutions. Scanned signatures are accepted. 
Note: you need to submit a thorough research plan and an invitation letter. Without these documents, your application will not be evaluated.

Specific requirements for staff:

  •  Have a contractual relationship with their home institution at the time of application and during
    the mobility.
  • Only for staff going abroad from Spain: associate members of staff (professor asociado) are not
    eligible to apply.
  • Lower priority will be given to applicants (both PhD students and staff) who have received mobility
    grants under Erasmus Mundus consortia, Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s degrees, or the Erasmus+
    International Credit Mobility (KA107) programme
