AdvanceLEAD

AdvanceLEAD: Advanced/Specialised Leadership Development

Format: The Specialised Leadership Development Challenge entails selective leadership programmes aimed at high-achieving student leaders who show potential.

Goal:  These students undergo advanced training and are channeled towards specialised leadership development programmes and virtual exchange opportunities, e.g., participation in national and international conferences, summits, and seminars. The annual Humanitarian Affairs Asia’s University Students Leadership Symposium (USLS), as well as the Green Summit and Peace Summit can be mentioned as examples.

The SLD Office often collaborates with national organisations and institutions of higher learning to:

  • co-present conferences and workshops
  • promote external leadership programmes and opportunities
  • recruit or select students for participation/UFS representation
  • channel students towards self-application and independent participation in the mentioned activities

The funding of such programmes will depend on the specific agreement with the entity, the availability of sponsorships, and the extent of UFS support for these opportunities. In each case, the SLD Office will provide clear indication regarding:

  • UFS involvement in terms of selection, recruitment, and support, or alternatively, the independent application process and participation by the student
  • funding possibilities (external sponsorships or UFS sponsorships available; or personal funding / fundraising possibilities)

Some of the national opportunities are:

  • Enke Make Your Mark Ignition Programme
  • FVZ JustLead Conference (Stellenbosch University)
  • Women Development Banking (WDB) Dialogue/Summit (University of Pretoria)

The SLD Office also collaborates with international organisations and institutions of higher learning to:

  • co-present conferences and workshops
  • promote external leadership programmes and opportunities
  • recruit or select students for participation/UFS representation
  • channel students towards self-application and independent participation in the mentioned activities

As with national opportunities, the funding of international programmes will depend on the specific agreement with the entity, the availability of sponsorships, and the extent of UFS support for these opportunities.

Some of the international opportunities are:

  • University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS, Asia)
  • Humanitarian Affairs Asia: Annual Green Summit and Peace Summit
  • One Young World Youth International Fora (video-conference discussions, facilitated from Pittsburgh, USA)
  • International Youth Leadership Conference (Europe, USA)
