Principles and objectives
Principles
- UVPERSU will endeavour to have democracy and transparency applied at all levels.
- UVPERSU is member-oriented. For this reason, effective channels of communication with all interest groups will be accomplished in order to maintain contact with members (and vice versa) and to ensure that the needs and interests of members receive priority.
- UVPERSU representatives will be elected by members who have paid up to date.
- UVPERSU recognises the divergent nature and compilation of its members and will endeavour to be sensitive throughout to the needs of its members.
- UVPERSU acts independently of employers and will not indirectly or directly be controlled or influenced by it and also functions independently of the influential domain of the broader trade union movement.
Objectives
- To ensure that all members of UVPERSU receive fair treatment within their work-related environment.
- To collectively negotiate with the employer on a regular basis on conditions of service, reasonable salaries and other matters of interest.
- To ensure that the relevant stipulations of the Constitution of South Africa, the Act on Labour Relations, and the regulations of the International Labour Organisation are consistently enforced to the benefit of the UVPERSU members.
- To build on an internal communication network (between management, members, and interest groups).
- To protect the academic and autonomous freedom of the university.
- To affiliate with certain national and international forums, when necessary, in order to especially promote the interests of the members as well as the economy of the country in general.
