THEP6808 - Acting

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised module Acting (THEP3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of acting and performance projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of contemporary performance practices and the part the individual performer plays within it.  Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent performance/acting practitioner.  

THTD6808 - Directing

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of directing projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of contemporary directing practices. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent theatre director.   

THPT6808 - Physical Theatre

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of physical theatre projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of contemporary physical theatre practices and the part the physical theatre practitioner plays. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent physical theatre practitioner.

THAT6808 - Applied Theatre

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of applied theatre projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of applied theatre practices and the part the applied theatre practitioner plays. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent theatre practitioner.

The module is a progression of the specialised module Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of theatre design projects. These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of contemporary theatre design practices. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent theatre designer.

THET6808 - Technical Theatre Management

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised module Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of technical theatre projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of technical theatre management. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an independent technical theatre manager. 

THAM6808 - Arts Management

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of arts management projects.  These projects will encourage students to develop a wider understanding of arts management. Professionally focused experiences will help to prepare students to acquire the skills and methods necessary to be an arts manager within the within a local context. 

THPW6808 - Playwriting

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of playwriting projects.  Professionally focused experiences will familiarise the student with various format and conventions of the stage play, as well as the languages of drama and performance. 

THSM6808 - Stage Make-up

The module presents a practical selection option for the Honours course. The module is a progression of the specialised modules Acting (THEP3700), Film Practice (THEF3700), Theatre-Making (THEM3700) or Technical Management and Scenography 3 (THET3700) in the third year of study and builds on the broad foundations and skills of the graduate BA Drama and Theatre Arts framework. Using the understandings of these diverse skills, students will apply prior knowledge to the delivery of a number of stage make-up projects.  Professionally focused experiences will familiarise the student with various techniques of stage make-up practices and the part the make-up artist plays within it and methods necessary to be an independent make-up artist.  

THTY6808 - Theatre for the Youth

This module offers a rare opportunity to synthesise the wide range of skills, that would have been acquired at an Undergraduate level, in creating work designed for a specific audience – namely the youth. The course will draw on the student’s experience in Puppet Theatre, Performance (Acting and Movement), Voice and Speech, Design and Dramatic Theory, amongst others. Students will exercise their theoretical understanding, gained through regular seminars, in essays and a final cumulative written assignment. There will be regular showings of practical work and the final practical outcome will be the performance of an originally created theatre piece aimed at a younger audience. Ultimately, students will acquire conceptual and practical skills that are immediately applicable to the Theatre industry. 

THVS6808 - Approaches to Voice and Speech Training

This module gives students the opportunity to explore practical industry-related skills and intertwines with all the practical components of undergraduate training in the Drama and Theatre Arts Department. Students will also be taught ethical and aesthetic principles related to voice practice. Moreover, this module connects to a growing need in the corporate, entertainment and educational sectors for trainers with expertise in voice production.

This module informs students of the Anatomy of Speech and Physiology of vocal production thus promoting an understanding of healthy vocal use and of the physical/vocal conditions that need to be in place for the voice to function effectively, which is the focus of the practical work throughout the year and is rooted in the principles of training practices for healthy vocal use. The content of the course spans from teaching practice-based methods and strategies to theoretical research.
