LTSER platform working to restore and maintain the environment

Long-term socio-ecological research (LTSER) platforms are place-based transdisciplinary research infrastructures for knowledge sharing and collaboration. LTSERs provide platforms for learning about and producing solutions to sustainability challenges that arise in susceptible areas.

The Mont-aux-Sources (MaS) LTSER platform in the northern Maloti-Drakensberg region focuses on the interaction with relevant stakeholders, competent authorities, and researchers to find sustainable solutions to socio-ecological problems in the area.

Degradation is occurring in the alpine wetlands of this area, and some have already become severely degraded. Wetland degradation can lead to loss of ecosystem services as well as livelihood of the locals, therefore the LTSER platform strives to work collaboratively with interested and affected parties to find, restore, and maintain the environment.
