Research:
I am a Lecturer in the School of Education Studies. My research field is higher education studies, focusing more on work-integrated learning of student teachers. My master’s was on the preparation of teachers for rural teaching and my PhD is on the assessment of work-integrated learning (WIL) by including the voices of student teachers in the assessment.
The process to assess WIL was excluding the voices of student teachers, which caused assessment to be viewed as biased and judgmental towards students. I use participatory action research as methodology to engage participants in the study and empower them with assessment processes of the research study. I started my career in teaching with a Secondary Teachers Diploma, Further Diploma in Education, BEd in Education Management and Leadership, master’s in Higher Education Studies, to a PhD in Higher Education Studies.
