Research
I am a geneticist and Lecturer in the UFS Qwaqwa Department of Zoology and Entomology, with a PhD in Ichthyology from Rhodes University. My research interests include ichthyology, mammalogy, herpetology, species identification, phylogenetics, phylogeography, biogeography, systematics, hybridisation, conservation, and ecology.
I am working on the diversity and conservation of small mammals in the Maloti Drakensberg in collaboration with Prof Peter Taylor and the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB).
Furthermore, I was employed by the UFS (in 2020) and started my research group called Animal Molecular Genetics, with the focus on mountain animals. I am looking to grow the group by acquiring more postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Recently, I acted as a reviewer for the Journal of Fish Biology.
