Responsibilities

I am a GIS and remote sensing specialist, with research interests in long-term environmental monitoring. My academic and professional qualifications include a PhD and MSc in Environmental Science, a Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Developmental Planning, a BA in Environmental Science and History, a Diploma in Education, a Certificate in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), a Certificate in the Human and Institutional Dimensions of Global Environmental Change, and a Certificate for Training in Online Publishing.

I have conducted research in Botswana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa and taught for more than 25 years at different tertiary institutions, including Bindura University of Science Education, the University of Fort Hare, North-West University, the University of Botswana, and Gweru and Morgenster Teacher Training Colleges in Zimbabwe. Previously I have also worked as Geo-Informatics Programme Manager at the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) Institute for Soil, Climate and Water, during which time I concurrently served as acting manager of the Earth Observation and Agro-Climatology Programmes.

Furthermore, I have presented papers at international conferences in more than 10 countries worldwide. I was an expert reviewer of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Sub-Global Report, and a visiting scholar at the University of Glasgow. Moreover, I have reviewed and continue to review papers for several journals, and project proposals and rating applications for the National Research Foundation (NRF).

In addition, I am an alumnus of the global change SysTem for Analysis, Research and Training (START), and is currently supervising PhD students from the University of Fort Hare as external promoter. I was Associate Editor of the African Handbook of Climate Change, and I am currently serving in the same capacity for the International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management.
