Research:
I am affiliated as a researcher to the Afromontane Research Unit (ARU) through the UFS Department of Geography. My research interests focus on environmental change science and sustainable development, climate change risk assessment, multi-hazard early warning systems, and scientific/technical guidance for emergency response preparedness, enabling technologies such as remote sensing applications for disaster risk reduction/disaster risk management and information/communication sciences, capacity building and intercultural training, as well as conceptual design/instructional theory of higher education programmes.
I hold a Diploma in Geography from the University of Bonn and a PhD in Physical Geography and Atmospheric Sciences from the Universities of Mannheim and Göttingen.
I have broad expertise in climatology and earth observation technologies, global environmental change and sustainable development research, capacity-building and web-based data, and information management. My work experience also encompasses higher education curriculum development, organising international seminars and workshops, and lecturing international training courses on remote sensing applications for risk and disaster management (I am an Associate Professor in the UFS Disaster Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC).
