Current Projects

Maternal Deaths during Caesarean Section

An important, current project is an investigation into maternal deaths during caesarean section at primary and secondary level hospitals in the Free State. This project is done in co-operation with the Free State Provincial Administration. Methods to improve conditions is also developed and tested.

The project leader is Dr Gillian Lamacraft in collaboration with the head of the department and other members of the department as well members of the Department Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Other Projects

Various smaller projects on various aspects of anaesthesia also take place. This includes

  • investigations into bupivacaine toxicity,
  • intraoperative awareness,
  • "serebrale oksigenasie tydens carotis endarterektomie".
