Undergraduate Programme Content
New Curriculum
The department participates in all three phases in the new curriculum.
Phase I
Basic anaesthetic concepts aimed at patient management are presented.
Phase II
A series of didactic structured discussions is presented to illustrate basic principles and encourage further investigation. The following subjects are presented:
- Introduction and equipment
- Induction
- Inhalation
- Monitoring
- Muscle relaxation
- Fluid therapy
- Obstetrical anaesthesia
- Hypotension and hypoxia
- Dysrythmias
- Recovery room
Phase III
During this phase, a two-week clinical rotation through the department takes place. Resuscitation is presented as well as tutorials and various activities as student self study. The main emphasis in this phase is clinical experience in theatre. Full information on these programmes will be available at a later date.
Postgraduate Programmes
PhD and DM
The study content is related to anaesthesia, but may include relevant aspects from outside the field. The normal duration for the study is between 2 and 4 years. The project is evaluated by a Faculty Committee and after approval is presented to the Faculty Board. A promoter from the department acts as study leader but a co-promoter may be appointed from outside the department if necessary. External examiners are appointed to evaluate the study after completion.
