On Monday 9 June 2014 at about 15:00, Protection Services officers arrested a man at the Roosmaryn gate for the theft of a bicycle. Two bicycles were recovered. During further investigation, the suspect led a Protection Services investigator and the police to his accomplice at a house in Mangaung. There, four other bicycles – which were stolen from the Bloemfontein Campus – were discovered.

Since a series of bicycle thefts were reported to Protection Services in recent weeks, a stop and search operation was introduced.

The recovered bicycles are being held at a police station for prosecution procedures. The owners of the bicycles will be identified based on information provided in the reports and will be assisted to claim their bicycles back.

The investigation has confirmed that the syndicate is solely responsible for the recent incidences of bicycle thefts.

The operation and investigations will continue.
