Building Social Cohesion with Wealth Creation programme

Programme description

Social cohesion refers to a continuous process of facilitating the establishment of a community of shared values, shared principles, shared dreams, shared loyalties, shared solidarity, and shared challenges, as well as maximising opportunities for the benefit of all, thereby creating a sense of belonging, hope, and trust. This process recognises and acknowledges that people are different but that, as a community, there is a need for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect, access to and sharing of resources, patriotism, as well as the need to uphold democratic values and respect for the Constitution.

Social cohesion is about people and how they live and connect with one another. It is about finding one another to build a better tomorrow today by pursuing common goals through democratic means.

“As a descriptive term, social cohesion refers to the extent to which society is coherent, united and functional, providing an environment within which its citizens can flourish.”  – Research Report of the Department of Arts and Culture, 2003.

The social cohesion process must contribute towards ensuring that financial and business structures and opportunities promote fair and transparent redistribution of resources, as well as support.
