More than 400 women confirmed that they would like to attend this year’s Health and Wellness Women’s breakfast. Prof Corli Witthuhn, Vise Rector: Research, opened the breakfast with some interesting statistics, for example that 55% of the UFS staff are women. She said “Major advances with the appointment of women have been made over the past 20 years”.

Women experience three major challenges in the workplace: These are:

  • How they evaluate themselves in the workplace.
  • The complexity of woman leadership.
  • To manage both personal and work responsibilities.

Prof Corli encouraged women at the UFS to believe in their abilities. A few guidelines which she shared with the ladies included:

  • Don’t feel guilty about yourself too often.
  • Stand up for yourself; don’t stand back and let someone else take the position that you worked for.
  • If work is enjoyable and and rewarding, it is also satisfying.
A further highlight of the morning was a performance by Ilne Fourie, written and directed by Jefferson Dirks-Korkee. Women were hysterical with laughter at the Anecdotes of the real woman used by Ilne Fourie. – Leonie Bolleurs
