Vaccination Update

Universitas Academic Hospital vaccination site activity

Vaccines are administered at accredited vaccination sites across the country. The Universitas Hospital, adjoining our Bloemfontein Campus, is one of the sites administering the vaccine to members of the UFS community. To date, only individuals 60 years or older can visit the site for vaccination.

The vaccination site is open from 07:30 to 15:00 daily. You do not need to make an appointment if you are registered on the Government platform (https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za).

It is important to note the following:
  • Please dress warmly.  You need to expose your shoulder in an open hall, so wear a T-shirt and many layers of clothing.
  • Take a pen and your identity document with you.

Who can get vaccinated now?

Phase two of the national vaccine roll-out is currently underway, with registrations for persons 60 years and older open. Register here.

You cannot catch COVID-19 from the vaccine, as there is no live coronavirus in it.

It is still possible to get COVID-19, as no vaccine is 100% effective.

You might have caught COVID-19 before being vaccinated (it can take up to 14 days for COVID-19 symptoms to start).

You might catch it within the first two weeks after being vaccinated while your immune system is being trained to fight COVID-19.

Screening and Access

After vaccination, do not confuse vaccine side effects with COVID-19 symptoms!

If your fever lasts longer than two days, or you if develop a continuous cough, sore throat, or changes in your ability to taste or smell after your vaccination, you may have COVID-19.

Isolate yourself and arrange to get a COVID test. Contract your health-care provider, the COVID-19 hotline, or the Health Centre.
