NMR Room

The Department of Chemistry: Bloemfontein Campus teaches approximately 800 undergraduate students and does research in all four classic divisions of Chemistry: Analytical, Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. The postgraduate students in the department include approximately 20 Honours, 40 MSc, and 21 PhD students, as well as 12 postdoctoral associates from as far as India,Nigeria, Sudan and Cameroon. The commitment and enthusiasm of Chemistry’s personnel and students were clearly demonstrated by our 2019 research outputs, as manifested by the 68 articles published in national and international accredited journals and 76 presentations made at local and international conferences; 8 PhD, 12 MSc and 20 Honours students graduated from the department. Our Crystallographic Laboratory is currently undergoing a multi-million rand upgrade with the installation of the most advanced single crystal X-ray diffractometer installed in South Africa.
