BELINDA JANEKE

I’m Belinda Janeke, head of Career Services at UFS. If I ever have to evacuate my house, I’ll grab my vinyl collection and player, my dogs, and my husband (in no particular order…) unless I’m binging The Crown on Netflix – wasn’t that just the best? All the glitz and drama had me hooked. I’m also a big fan of Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and Friends – for the silliness and fun. My guilty pleasure is chocolate and if I can only eat one pudding for the rest of my life, it would be chocolate lava pudding. Luckily, I can run about 7 kilometres in an hour. Exercise is my number one health hack – and don’t drink your calories. During my downtime, you’ll find me at my favourite holiday destination, the Garden Route (either physically or just in my head). O, and you always have a choice – that is my life motto.

Kate

KATE POEN

Hi, I’m Kate Poen, Senior Academic Advisor at CTL. I do NOT run. So, if you see my running, you should be worried. I rather opt for drinking lots of water to stay healthy and my guilty pleasure is wearing PJs all day and listening to music on repeat. If you carry content in my house, you will be safe during an emergency evacuation – I’m definitely grabbing books and important documents with one hand (my phone is in my other hand), and if possible, I might try to save my favourite pair of shoes. I’ll probably smile while I do it because I believe “it is a good day to have a good day”! I’m always game for a road trip to Namibia if you’re going? Just love that place. It's an oldie, but I cannot get over Law and Order: SVU. I fell in love with psychology because of the series. It’s a well-written and directed show about real crime stories that will have you cry so hard, but also appreciate how good it is.

Lerato

LERATO MOKATI

Hi, I’m Lerator Mokati and a Teaching and Learning Coordinator at UFS. When I’m not smoothing out student progress, I’m binging Brooklyn nine-nine – it is comically unrealistic and has all the ingredients I need in a sitcom. Love it. And, sure, I run…to the fridge and back. In a crisis, I might be able to go about 500m, I guess. My number one health hack is whatever keeps my dopamine levels high. No wonder my guilty pleasure is Travelling, especially to Zanzibar. Hey, let a girl dream, OK? If I’m forced to eat just one type of sweet treat for the rest of my life it would definitely be Caramel Swirl Gateau. May this never be the case, but if I have to evacuate my house in 30 seconds, I’d grab my phone, computer, microphone and songbook. Yup. I’m Gen-Z. And my ancestors’ wildest dream.

Matthew

MATT CRONJE

Hi, I’m Matt Cronje, Criminology and Social Sciences Programme Director at UFS. There are so many excellent series to stream that it is hard to pick just one. If I say “Bodies”, would that be too obvious? Anyway, it is a bit of a thinker and there’s some murder mystery involved. I can run a variety of distances depending on how fast I must go – so, who or what is chasing me? Think of me what you want, but sleep is my number one health hack, and my guilty pleasure is expanding perspectives. I also believe that nothing good grows in the dark, hence the sleep health hack. I won’t mind eating condensed milk ice cream (made by my wife)s for the rest of my life and you’ll find me on holiday anywhere with good company. Should I have to evacuate my house fast, I’d grab my family. That’s it.

podcast Orieo

OREFILE SEFIKA (Season 4 – Season 10)

I'm Orefile Sefika, better known as Orieo. Currently, I’m a postgraduate student at the Faculty of Theology and Religion. You’ll not likely find any pet hair on my favourite black or navy-blue wear…not really a fan of the furry ones. I do, however, love listening to Yanni’s Renegade. If I could master telekinesis, I’d probably move a Yanni concert into my lounge every weekend. But I won’t go back to rectify my past mistakes because I never beat myself up about that anyway. Like Leon Brown said: “You cannot go back in time and fix your mistakes, but you can learn from them and forgive yourself for not knowing better.” That is why I indulge in winter coats and chicken tikka masala…I’ve learnt the hard way what is good for my soul! That, and of course any graduation ceremony – the most beautiful sight to see.
