As the year is nearing an end and family time and good food become the main priority, Health and Wellness thought it would be beneficial to remind staff members about maintaining their physical activities. Biokineticist, Tirsa Pittaway, was invited to share and give attendees a different view on physical activity.

Pittaway said we should take a contemporary perspective when talking about physical well-being, focusing on the mind and body in unity. To illustrate, she outlined the advantages of physical activity, what one’s motivation should be, and setting goals that will work for you. Pittaway emphasised that, “If you have a healthy body and a healthy mind, it adds much value to your life.” She further mentioned that exercise decreases depression in adults, and is also beneficial to self-esteem and self-concept.

When trying to find out what works best for you, Pittaway advised that you should never start with too much. It is also important for individuals to focus on things that motivate you for exercise, such as health, family, and personal goals you would like to achieve.

When setting goals, you should keep in mind that it is never too late. Pittaway encouraged those present, “Make small changes in order to change something bigger.”
