Financial Literacy Series with ABSA

The University of the Free State (UFS) recently hosted the first leg (for 2025) of its ongoing Financial Literacy Series across all three campuses. Initially launched as a Social Support Office initiative, the programme gained further momentum and sponsorship from ABSA following three successful events in 2024.

The series was designed to be presented in two phases: the first leg being held in the first semester, with the second one planned for later in the year. The first sessions were hosted on 5 March 2025 at South Campus, 6 March 2025 at Bloemfontein Campus, and 7 March 2025 at Qwaqwa Campus.

Across the three campuses, the series attracted an impressive 710 student participants. Discussions focused on practical financial topics such as saving on a limited budget, understanding credit health, and financial planning. Many students expressed that they had previously been unaware of effective saving strategies and the importance of maintaining a healthy credit score. Feedback from attendees highlighted that the insights shared were not only informative but would be instrumental in helping them build better financial habits and make smarter financial decisions moving forward.

The Financial Literacy Series aligns with the UFS’s commitment to equipping students with the necessary life skills for success, both during their academic journey and beyond.
