Free Concert: REFLECTIONS ON A LEGEND: 4666
15 February 2019 19:00
Odeion School of Music

2018 marked the centenary celebration of Nelson Mandela, and the Odeion String Quartet presented performances at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown and Vryfees in Bloemfontein commemorating Mandela’s centenary with a retrospective music production titled Reflections on a Legend: 46664. The performances honoured the late statesman with a musical juxtaposition on the combination of his prison number 466/64, with a chamber ensemble attributed to each number. The narration is meticulously curated to avoid politics, but rather concentrated on Mandela’s personal life, looking at his character traits that represented hope, courage, love and sacrifice.

Music:

6- string sextet by Antonin Dvorak in A major op.48 I- Allegro- moderato
