Prof Abdon Atangana is a passionate mathematician who is actively contributing to the body of scholarly work in mathematics.

Prof Abdon Atangana from the Institute of Groundwater Studies at the University of the Free State (UFS) has added two new books to his publishing repertoire with the release of Integral Transforms and Engineering: Theory, Methods, and Applications and Numerical Methods for Fractal-Fractional Differential Equations and Engineering: Simulations and Modelling.

Through his continued work in publishing, Prof Atangana is ensuring that his academic and research work will be available to the next generation of scholars. These two books bring Prof Atangana’s total of published books to eight.  Prof Atangana is the academic head of the ISG; his academic and research work has made him a highly respected academic. In 2022, Prof Atangana was ranked the second best academic in general mathematics in the Stanford University Top 2% Scientist in the World list.

Books valuable tool for many fields

Integral Transforms and Engineering: Theory, Methods presents a mathematical analysis of integral transforms and their applications. “The book illustrates the possibility of obtaining transfer functions using different integral transforms, especially when mapping any function into the frequency domain,” says Prof Atangana.

According to Prof Atangana, this book is a ‘useful reference’ for practitioners, engineers, researchers, and graduate students in mathematics, applied sciences, engineering, and technology fields. The book was co-authored by Prof Ali Akgul from Siirt University in Turkey.

The second book, Numerical Methods for Fractal-Fractional Differential Equations and Engineering: Simulations and Modelling, published by Prof Atangana and his co-author Dr Muhammad Altaf Khan – one of his former postdoctoral fellows – is the first book to “offer mathematical modelling and simulations of chaotic problems with a wide range of fractal-fractional operators, to find solutions”.

• *What are integral transforms?
Integral transforms are a mathematical technique used to transform a mathematical function from one field to another. It is used in maths, physical sciences, and engineering, among other disciplines.
