The Bloemfontein Campus Choir is ending an extraordinary year with a vibrant musical gift to the university community and audiences across the country. Their newly released piece, Bagaethso Dumelang, is more than a song – it is a celebration of connection, culture, and collective achievement at the University of the Free State.

Composed by three choir members, Neo Madisha, Mamello Thoo, and Realeboga Kiti, the piece blends Sesotho and Setswana greetings into a warm, uplifting message for the year ahead. Its rhythms and harmonies reflect the spirit of unity that has defined the choir’s journey throughout 2025.

This has been a standout season for the ensemble. Earlier in the year, the choir helped bring together young voices from across the region by contributing to a high-school choir event hosted on the Bloemfontein Campus. Their performances affirmed the UFS’ commitment to nurturing cultural expression and creating inclusive spaces where talent can flourish.

The choir also made a strong impression beyond the Free State. Audiences in Johannesburg enjoyed their artistry when four university choirs shared the stage in a collaborative showcase that highlighted excellence in choral performance. In every venue, their presence echoed the UFS vision of inspiring impact – locally rooted, yet nationally resonant.

Bagaethso Dumelang captures all of this momentum. With each performance that lifted audiences to their feet earlier this year, the song’s energy is carried into its newly released recording and music video. “Thanks go to John Smith for the sound recording, and to Jerry Mtetwa and his team for bringing the visuals to life with care and creativity,” said Werner Stander, choir conductor. 

As the year draws to a close, the Bloemfontein Campus Choir offers this piece as a joyful greeting to the new year – a reminder of what can be achieved when diverse voices come together with purpose.
