On 26 July 2019, residence students on the Bloemfontein Campus handed a memorandum and petition to the university management regarding the proposed revised residence-placement policy, as well as the maintenance and upkeeping of residences on the campus.

Feedback on the memorandum and petition was yesterday given by Prof Prakash Naidoo, Vice-Rector: Operations, to a group of students who gathered in front of the Main Building.

In the feedback provided by Prof Naidoo, it was indicated that the existing residence-placement policy will continue until a full consultation process on the proposed new placement policy and the existing policy takes place. A commitment was also given that feedback would be provided within 48 hours on matters raised by residents in connection with continuous maintenance, with the necessary indication of completion times. The students were not satisfied with the feedback but decided to deliberate on management's response.
