Enjoy the festive season with these safety tips

Safety never takes a holiday. The University of the Free State’s Department of Protection Services wishes the Kovsie community happy and safe holidays.

Heed these tips when travelling, away on holiday or in the street.

Be aware of your surroundings and any suspicious-looking persons or behaviour (especially in queues);
Report any suspicious behaviour or activity to the central security on-site or the South African Police Services;
Be alert when leaving shopping centres. Should you suspect that you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station;
Jamming devices are frequently used by criminals, so ensure that your vehicle is locked by physically checking it before leaving;
All valuables must be safely stowed away in the boot or under the seats in order to avoid smash and grab incidents;
Do not leave your handbags or valuables unattended while shopping; and

SMS service for exam results

Students at the University of the Free State (UFS) can now also receive their exam results via SMS.

“The service will be implemented with the mid-year exams, which started this week,” said Mr Vernon Collett, Registrar: Academic Student Services at the UFS.

“The exam results will, as always, be made available by the department involved and the SMS service will be updated on a daily basis by means of computers,” said Mr Collett.

According to Mr Collett the service is quick and easy and results are sent within seconds. He explains that a students will be able to obtain their module results during the exam by sending the word UFS and their student number to 35606.

“Although students could already obtain their exam results from the UFS web page, this service provides them the opportunity to obtain their results at any time and place,” said Mr Collett.

The service is applicable to MTN, Vodacom and Cell-C users at a cost of R3 per SMS.
