Academics speak at pecan nut information day
2009-10-23

Prof. Schalk Louw and Mr Vaughn Swart of the Department of Zoology & Entomology and Centre for Plant Health Management (CePHMa) were special guest speakers during a pecan-nut information day held at the Griekwaland-Wes Korporasie (GWK) in Douglas where they did presentations on diseases and pests that threaten the pecan-nut industry in South Africa. During the proceedings a motivation on the necessity of a statutory levy for research on pecans was submitted to the South African Pecan Producers Association (SAPPA), which will be tabled at the SAPPA annual general meeting later in the year at Cradock. Appearing from the left are: Mr Swart, Prof. Louw, Mr Kobus van der Schyff (SIDI PARANI (Pty) Ltd, a fertilizer company) and Mr Hennie Stander (Regional Manager of GWK, Douglas).
