With the second semester well underway, you may feel overwhelmed by the academic pressure and you aren’t sure how to find your way out of this maze. Prof. Gert van Zyl, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Free State (UFS), was recently elected as the new Chairman of the Board of the Council for Health Service Accreditation of Southern Africa (COHSASA).
Prof. Van Zyl has been Head of the School of Medicine at the university since 2001 and acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences since August 2009. He is an expert in family medicine, community-health and health-professions education. He is also the Deputy Chairperson of the Universitas Private Hospital doctors’ group in Bloemfontein and a member of the Board of the Kimberley Hospital.
Prof. Van Zyl also serves on the Council of the SA Medical Association’s branch in the Free State. He also lectures undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the UFS School of Medicine.
