Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas. Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Young scientists show their projects on UFS's main campus

The annual Eskom Expo for Young Scientists was presented this week in partnership with the University of the Free State (UFS) on the institutions's Main Campus in Bloemfontein. Altogether 523 primary and secondary schools in Bloemfontein and the Southern Free State took part in the expo and 401 projects were exhibited. Here are Zhané Saais (left), Grade 7 learner from Central Primary School in Bloemfontein and Simoné Steyn, Grade 7 learner from Onze Rust Primary School in Bloemfontein with a project of Simoné. Her project entailed the use of aspirin on roses to combat fungal disease.
