Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas. Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Graduate awarded a prestigious scholarship

A graduate of the Centre for Development Support at the University of the Free State, Ms Carol Mumba, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to participate in the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in the United States. She will be hosted by the University of Washington in Seattle, where she will focus on Human Resources and Public Policy Analysis. The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship provides a year of professional enrichment in the US for experienced professionals from designated countries. Ms Mumba, an employee of the Catholic Relief Services in Zambia, received her Masters in Development Studies in 2007.
