The Department of Political Sciences at the University of the Free State (UFS) recently hosted Sir Alan Hazelhurst, Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the United Kingdom, during his official visit to the South African Parliament in Cape Town. During his visit to South Africa he also made some time to visit the UFS and to deliver a lunch hour lecture on public participation in governance and how parliament communicates with the public. Pictured here are Prof. Gerhardt de Klerk (left), Dean of the Faculty of the Humanities, and Sir Hazelhurst.
