Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.  Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Training seminar on mass spectrometry presented at the UFS

A training seminar on mass spectrometry was recently presented by the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Free State (UFS) and PAREXEL International in Bloemfontein. All aspects of mass spectrometry were discussed during the seminar, among others ionization techniques, mass filters, detectors and vacuum systems. At the seminar were, from the left: Prof. Jan van der Westhuizen, Department of Chemistry at the UFS, Dr Duduzile Molefe, Medical Research Council, Cape Town, Prof. Kenneth Swart, FARMOVS-PAREXEL, Bloemfontein, Dr Susan Laurens, University of Pretoria, and prof.
