Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas. Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Satellite links UFS and ASU

The University of the Free State (UFS) recently communicated with the Appalachian State University (ASU) in North Carolina in the United States of America by means of a video conference. Various departments and faculties were involved with the communication, culminating in an agreement for future collaboration with the ASU. Opportunities for research and community partner collaboration in the ASU’s international learning programmes were identified. The collaboration also makes provision for reciprocal exchange of staff and students between the UFS and the ASU.
