Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.  Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Join us for a discussion where our panellists will analyse this perceived conflict.

Annual congress: Biological sciences division
2006-10-12

The annual congress of the Biological Sciences Division of the South African Academy for Science and Arts was held at the University of the Free State (UFS).  The congress was hosted by the Directorate Research Development.  This event creates and opportunity for established scientists and especially young biologists to report on their research activities with presentations and posters.  The theme was open for any work of biological nature.  Prof Neil Heideman (Vice-dean: Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences) was the guest speaker.

A cash prize was awarded to mr CF Botha for the best poster.
