Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.  Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Actuarial science student awarded bursary
2007-05-31

A University of the Free State (UFS) honours student in Actuarial Science, Michael Hill, was awarded a R30 000 bursary by PPS Insurance. The bursary recognizes overall excellence by tertiary students in South Africa and it is awarded only once a year to a deserving student. Attending the award ceremony were, from the left: Mr Kobus Bekker (Programme Director: Actuarial Science), Mr Barry Pretorius (Area Sales Manager: PPS), Mr Hill, and Prof Herman van Schalkwyk (Dean: Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences).
