Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas. Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Kovsie Bequest Society presents workshop on estates

The Kovsie Bequest Society at the University of the Free State (UFS) recently presented a workshop on estate planning and administration. The Director of Corporate Tax at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr Gert Nel, and the head of the Department of Private Law at the UFS, Prof. Johan van Schalkwyk, presented papers. Mr Nel focused on estate planning and Prof. Van Schalkwyk talked about estate administration. At the workshop were, from the left: Dr Ivan van Rooyen (Director: UFS Marketing), Prof. Alta Koekemoer (lecturer at the UFS Centre for Accounting), Mr Nel and Prof. Van Schalkwyk.
