09 August 2020 | Story Leonie Bolleurs

Every year on 9 August, South Africa commemorates the 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria against pass laws in 1956.

Today, the University of the Free State celebrates its scientists, sports stars, surgeons, and so many more of its women where they not only add value to society in their professions, but also contribute to better the lives of others.

Wherever you find yourself as a woman today – in the support services, in management, as a service worker, as a student, as an alumna, a donor, or a business partner – the UFS shines a spotlight on you as women who are making a positive impact on a daily basis.

Happy Women’s Day!

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Jane Goodall

Badminton brothers off to USA
2005-05-26

KOVSIES's badminton brothers, Chris and Roelof Dednam, were after their recent international successes in Kenya and China included in the International Badminton Federation's preliminary list of qualifiers for the world individual championships in August in Anaheim, California.  Chris qualified for the singles championship, and the two brothers together for the men's doubles.

Michelle Edwards (WP) can also take part in the singles and together with Chantal Botts (KZN) in the women's doubles.  In the mixed doubles no pair of South Africa qualified, due to absence on the ranking list because they did not take part in sufficient international tournaments during the past year due to lack of financing.
