Helen Zille is a South African journalist, activist, and politician who served as the national leader (2007-2015) of the Democratic Alliance (DA), the official opposition party in South Africa. She was also Premier of the Western Cape from 2009 until 2019. Zille’s autobiography, Not without a Fight, was published in 2016.
Deaf Awareness Week

The University of the Free State (UFS) supported International Deaf Awareness Week, which took place during the first week of September 2006, with the presentation of various events to schools and the deaf communities of greater Bloemfontein.
Ms Emily Matabane (from the UFS Department of Sign Language and chairperson of the Free State Federation of the Deaf) can be seen conveying information to learners in sign language.
