Helen Zille is a South African journalist, activist, and politician who served as the national leader (2007-2015) of the Democratic Alliance (DA), the official opposition party in South Africa. She was also Premier of the Western Cape from 2009 until 2019. Zille’s autobiography, Not without a Fight, was published in 2016.
UFS names sport stars

The University of the Free State (UFS) named its sportsman and woman for 2006. Charlene Hertzog, Protea netball captain, was named sportswoman and Chris Dednam, South Africa's foremost badminton player who this year won the national singles title for the fourth year in a row, was named sportsman. During the award ceremony were, from the left: Mr James Letuka (Director of Kovsie Sport), Chris Dednam, Charlene Hertzog and Mr Moss Mashishi (President of the SA Sports Federation and Olympic Committee). Mr Mashishi was the guest speaker. |
