Helen Zille is a South African journalist, activist, and politician who served as the national leader (2007-2015) of the Democratic Alliance (DA), the official opposition party in South Africa. She was also Premier of the Western Cape from 2009 until 2019. Zille’s autobiography, Not without a Fight, was published in 2016.

The University of the Free State (UFS) awarded 32 doctorate degrees during this week's autumn graduation ceremony. Among the guests attending the chancellor's dinner, where the doctorandi's were congratulated, were, from the left: Prof. Hendrik Swart (Departmental Chairperson of the UFS Department of Physics and promoter of Dr Rochelle Conradie), Dr Conradie (Ph.D. in Physics), Dr Moagi Letso (Ph.D. in Animal Science), Prof. HO de Waal (from the UFS Department of Animal, Wildlife and Grassland Sciences and promoter of Dr Moagi), Dr Patrick Nonjola (Ph.D. in Chemistry) and Prof. Jannie Swarts (from the UFS Department of Chemistry and promoter of Dr Nonjola).
