Dr Samantha Potgieter, infectious disease expert at the Universitas Academic Hospital and affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS), will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and its affects.

The webinar will address questions such as the following:

• what vaccination is and how it works
• how vaccines are developed and how we know they are safe and effective
• how the COVID-19 vaccine works and how it can protect you
• the side effects of the vaccine
• the risks vs benefits of the vaccine.

Service learning research day

The Centre for Higher Education Studies and Development (CHESD), recently presented a Service Learning Research Day. Some of the presentations delivered included “Preparing students for life: The role of service learning and critical reflection” and “Can science and service learning marry?”, presented by the couple Mr Dawie and Ms Deidré van Jaarsveldt.
