Dr Samantha Potgieter, infectious disease expert at the Universitas Academic Hospital and affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS), will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and its affects.

The webinar will address questions such as the following:

• what vaccination is and how it works
• how vaccines are developed and how we know they are safe and effective
• how the COVID-19 vaccine works and how it can protect you
• the side effects of the vaccine
• the risks vs benefits of the vaccine.

Research report launched

The Research Report of the University of the Free State was launched this week at a panel discussion on Perspective on Research as part of the inaugural programme of the Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jonathan Jansen. The discussion was led by Prof. Jansen (middle), Prof. Josephine Allen of the Cornell University in the United States, and Dr Ben Ngubane (right), former Minister of Science and Technology and former Ambassador to Japan.
