Dr Samantha Potgieter, infectious disease expert at the Universitas Academic Hospital and affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS), will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and its affects.

The webinar will address questions such as the following:

• what vaccination is and how it works
• how vaccines are developed and how we know they are safe and effective
• how the COVID-19 vaccine works and how it can protect you
• the side effects of the vaccine
• the risks vs benefits of the vaccine.

NanoAfrica2012 to be held at the UFS

The University of the Free State (UFS) will host the 4^th International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (NanoAfrica2012) from 1-4 April 2012. The conference is co-organised by the Department of Physics at UFS and the South African Nanotechnology Initiative (SANi).

The theme of the conference is Nanostructured Materials for Industrial and Social Development. The conference is aimed at covering a wide variety of topics ranging from fundamental research to technological applications of nanostructured materials. High-profile international specialists from countries such as Germany, Spain, the USA and India will be presenting plenary lectures.
